Chris Mould has secured the release of a seriously ill prisoner who was serving an extended determinate sentence (EDS).
It was a complex case due largely to his client's poor physical and mental health. Chris wanted the Parole Board to fully understand his client's health and social care needs and how they might affect his risk. He advocated for and secured suitable directions from the Panel Chair and for his hearing to be expedited.
Chris represented his client in his absence as he was not well enough to attend his hearing. The client had been unsuccessful with a compassionate release application despite having a terminal diagnosis.
Chris secured a short adjournment of the hearing for a care home to be found and suitable plans to be made for his release. When this was in place, Chris persuaded the Panel to direct his release and to reduce the usual reconsideration period which enabled him to be released sooner.
