SL5 Legal and No5 Barristers' Chambers have joined forces to present a seminar series on prison law focusing on proceedings before the Parole Board.
The series is intended for both new and more experienced prison law practitioners. Geared towards securing excellent results for clients, the series will provide a detailed update on the latest legal issues. Attendees will benefit from practical advice from trainers who have substantial experience in prison law. It will also provide a forum for prison lawyers to raise issues regarding practice and to discuss them with leading practitioners.
All seminars are in person and will be hosted at No5's London office at Savoy Court.
Seminar One, entitled 'Preparing your client’s case before the Parole Board', and Seminar Two, entitled 'Advocacy before the Parole Board', were well-attended and very well-received. If you were not able to attend, it is possible to purchase a copy of the materials and recordings of the sessions.
Seminar Three, entitled 'Challenging Parole Board decisions’, will be held on Tuesday 18 June 2024, from 11am to 5pm. The cost is £50 + VAT.
The session will conclude with a chaired panel discussion with special guest HHJ Peter Rook KC (judicial vice chair of the Parole Board).

Seminar Three: Challenging Parole Board decisions
This third and final seminar of the series will focus on challenging Parole Board decisions and is intended for both new and more experienced prison law practitioners.
It will comprehensively cover the latest developments in this area and provide an in-depth guide to identifying potential grounds of review.
Introductory training will also be provided in relation to the commencement of judicial review proceedings.
Topics that will be covered in the morning session include the reconsideration process, identifying grounds to challenge Parole Board decisions and applications to set aside.
Topics that will be covered in the afternoon include identifying grounds for judicial review, challenging Secretary of State refusals of open conditions recommendations and practical advice relating to judicial review proceedings.
The session will conclude with a chaired panel discussion with special guest HHJ Peter Rook KC (judicial vice chair of the Parole Board).
