We are thrilled to share a success story that highlights the dedication and expertise of our legal team. Yasmin Karabasic has represented her client, a Category A prisoner, for several years and having been refused a downgrade and an oral hearing in respect of his Category A Review in 2023, Yasmin made an application for judicial review arguing that the decision was procedurally unfair.
We were successful in achieving a grant of permission in that judicial review, in the summer of 2024. With the substantive hearing scheduled for January 2025, Yasmin worked tirelessly to prepare a strong case and support the client during this critical period. Key to this success was the intensive work leading up to and during his annual review.
Through several sets of detailed representations and technical arguments, we were able to demonstrate that our client had made a significant reduction in risk if unlawfully at large. As a result, our client was successfully downgraded to Category B, before the substantive hearing of the earlier judicial review claim.
